This book is "part three of the Rabaul trilogy" by author Bruce Gamble about the World War II history of Rabual.

The first book, Darkest Hour The True Story of Lark Force at Rabaul - Australia's Worst Military Disaster of World War II (Invasion Rabaul: The Epic Story of Lark Force, the Forgotten Garrison, January - July 1942). The second book, Fortress Rabaul: The Battle for the Southwest Pacific, January 1942-April 1943 and this the third book is Target: Rabaul: The Allied Siege of Japan's Most Infamous Stronghold, March 1943 - August 1945.

This book details the Allied campaign against Rabaul in East New Britain in present day Papua New Guinea.

This book details the air war over Rabaul during March 1943 to August 1945 including Australian, American and Japanese side of operations.

Pages 352-222, Appendix A - The Prisoners of Rabaul includes a list of Alliined Prisoners Of War (POW) that were detained at Rabaul, the great majority were executed or died in captivity.
