USAAF (Pacific Theater) Credits for the Destruction of Enemy Aircraft in Air-To-Air Combat World War 2 Victory List No. 3 This book is a comprehensive list U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) aerial victory credits for enemy aircaft shot down in the Pacific Theater. This self-published comb bound book is a remarkable work of research, statistical presentation and preparation. This book is the third victory list book researched, compiled and published by Frank Olynyk. The previous two volumes are Victory List No. 1: USMC, World War 2 and Victory List No. 2: USN, World War 2. The front matter (pages i-xiv) includes an introduction by Frank Olynyk with a list of sources consulted on microfilm at the U.S. National Archives & Records Administration (NARA). This is followed by an alphabetical list of Pacific Theater aces with five victories or more listed by full name, number of victories, USAAF serial number, birthday and hometown. The first section (pages 1-107) is a chronological listing of USAAF aerial victories starting on December 7, 1941 with those claimed during the Japanese attack over Oahu. Each entry is organized by date in abbreviated format (120741), time, enemy plane type, pilot rank and name, victory, loation, squadron and an abbreviation notaiton on the source(s). The last aerial victories were credited on September 14, 1945, the last full day of the Pacific War before the official surrender of Japan at 1:00am on September 15, 1945. Although some of the data is included in other publications including USAF Historical Study No. 85 USAF Credits For The Destruction of Enemy Aircraft, World War II they document lacks four key datapoints including in this book: time, enemy plane type, location and notes on sources. The book does not list ground victories. Page 337 begins a section on Pacific Theater World War 2 Victory Credits: Daily Totals listing the number of planes claimed as shot down, probable and damaged. Page 341 is a list of Pacific Theater World War 2 Victory Credits: Unit Totals by squadron. Page 343-361 is Pacific Theater World War 2 Victory Credits: Name Totals by name, with the highest scoring Major Richard Ira Bong with 40 victories / 8 probables / 7 damaged.
