We Prayed Remarks at Press Conference of Secretary of War This book details the experiences of Captain Edward V. Rickenbacker who was a passenger aboard B-17D Flying Fortress 40-3089 that ditched October 21, 1942 in the South Pacific. After twenty-two days lost at sea, Rickenbacker and the surviving crew were rescued. Afterwards, the crew were returned to the United States. On December 19, 1942 Rickenbacker reported his experiences to U.S. Secretary of War Henry L. Stimson and their experiences resulted in improved navigation tools for planes and improved survival gear for air crews. Later, his report was published by American Viewpoint as a book titled We Prayed: Remarks at Press Conference of Secretary of War (1943) with illustrations by Jack Betts. The title of this book is also listed as simply "We Prayed". A digital copy is available via Auburn University Libraries 101-00-036 that was sponsored by Socony-Vaccuum Oil Company, Inc.
