With The Old Breed At Peleliu and Okinawa Originally published in 1981, this book has been acclaimed as one of the best first-hand accounts of the Pacific War. With the Old Breed is based on notes Sledge wrote in a pocket-sized Bible he carried with him during battles. Most recently, this book was adapted in the HBO miniseries The Pacific. Sledge is portrayed in the initial episode 1 and episode 4, then follows him exclusively in epsiodes 5–10.
