USS Wahoo (SS-238) periscope view of damaged Harusame off Kairiru
The destroyer was hit amidships by a single torpedo damaging the keel. Afterwards, beached in shallow water to avoid sinking for emergency repairs. This photograph was reviewed by U.S. Navy intelligence and reported in Photographic Intelligence Report # 82, 17 March 1943 to be Asashio-class destroyer [sic Shiratsuyu-class based on the bridge and no. 2 gun mount removed].
