Japanese convoy including Nisshin off Tonolei Harbor on southern Bougainville
At the center are black smoke puffs from anti-aircraft shell burst. The upper vessel is Nisshin that had just returned from her third supply run to Guadalcanal. The lower vessel is an unidentified transport. This photograph was taken by a PBY Catalina that returned to USS Curtiss (AV-4) and were immediately developed for intelligence purposes.
