Vertical view of B-17 bomb run against Ryujo during the Battle of the Eastern Solomons
Two sticks of bombs dropped by B-17 Flying Fotresses from high altitude, exploding on the surface of the sea missing their targets. At the far left of the frame is damaged and immobile Japanese light aircraft carrier Ryujo. Destroyers Amatsukaze and Tokitsukaze have removed her crew, one one bow-to-bow and the other was alongside, now underway turning to avoid the bombs. At the upper edge of the frame is Heavy Cruiser Tone. Photograph taken by U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) B-17 Flying Fortress.
