Ship History
Built by Settsu Zosen Kogyo K.K in Osaka. Laid down during 1942 as a 780 Ton coastal freighter for Daisotoku Jiro of Kobe. Launched during 1942 as Shintoku Maru. Completed December 1942.

Wartime History
During early 1943, requisitioned by the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) for use as a cargo ship with IJA Number 1011 and operates in the South Pacific.

On May 1, 1943 at noon departs Shortland Harbor in a convoy consisting of Shintoko Maru, Takuei Maru and Sumiyoshi Maru escorted subchaser CH-30 bound for Rabaul.

On May 15, 1943 at 4:00pm departs Rabaul in a convoy consisting of Shintoko Maru, Kyosei Maru, Sumiyoshi Maru and Wakamatsu Maru No. 1 escorted by subchaser CH-30 bound for Shortland Harbor. En route, Sumiyoshi Maru and Wakamatsu Maru No. 1 detached bound for Buka.

On May 20, 1943 at 5:00pm departs Shortland Harbor in a convoy consisting of Shintoko Maru, Shintoko Maru, Kyosei Maru and Atsu Maru escorted by subchaser CH-30 bound for Rabaul.

On June 3, 1943 at 1:00pm departs Rabaul in a convoy consisting of Shintoko Maru, Mitsu Maru No. 3, Koshu Maru No. 2, Takuei Maru and Shintoku Maru escorted by subchaser CH-29 and CH-12 bound for Shortland Harbor.

Sinking History
On June 5, 1943 sunk by SBD Dauntless dive bombers between Shortland and Bougainville at roughly Lat 7°00'S, Long 155°33'E. Other sources state sunk off Buin on Bougainville.
