On December 4, 1943 sunk by U.S. carrier planes from USS Lexington into Northern Atoll in entering Kawajalein Atoll North Atoll through the Mellu Pass. Tateyama Maru No. 7 sank in the Northern Atoll 200 yards west of Sand Island along the west reef three
miles from Roi.
Shipwreck
Almost all the wooded hull and superstructure are
gone. Engines, fuel tanks and other equipment is all that remains
on the
sandy
bottom at depth of 90'. Two 6 foot anchors are near by, as are
several unexploded depth charges. Bottles, navigation instruments
and other
artifacts have
been found in the seabed around the wreck.
