Sinking History Built by Osaka Iron Works K.K. shipyard at Sakurajima. Launched 1941 as Tonei Maru purchased by Dairen Kisen K. K. and registered in Dairen. During 1941, requisitioned by the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as a cargo ship. Wartime History On September 28, 1943 at noon departs Palau as part of convoy N-805 bound for Rabaul including Maebashi Maru, Nisshu Maru, Kinkasan Maru, Toun Maru and Tonei Maru esorted by Subchaser CH-16 and Subchaser CH-38. On September 30, 1943 Maebashi Maru was torpedoed by USS Pogy (SS-266). Sinking History On October 1, 1943 spotted by USS Peto (SS-265) that fired a spread of six torpedoes at the convoy at Lat 4° 1'N, Long 143° 47' E, roughly 373 miles east southeast of Palau. At 5:00pm, one torpedo hit and sinks Kinkasan Maru with the loss of three of her crew. Another torpedo hits and sinks Tonei Maru with the loss of ten crew..
