U.S. Coast Guard (USCG)
On January 28, 1915 the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) was established, merging the Revenue Cutter Service established August 4, 1790 and U.S. Lifesaving Service established in 1878. In the summer of 1941, several U.S. Coast Guard vessels in Hawaii were placed under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Navy (USN) and assigned to the local defense force of the 14th Naval District and had their armament increased for patrol duty and anti-submarine duty. On November 1, 1941 under Executive Order 8929 the U.S. Coast Guard was transferred to the U.S. Navy (USN).
