Ship History Built by Union Construction in Oakland. Laid down as a 158' auxiliary tug. Launched as USCGC Shawnee (WAT-54). Commissioned March 8, 1922 in the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and used as an ocean tug based at Eureka and operated in the WESTSEAFRON off the west coast of the United States. On December 21, 1941 rescues 31 survivors of SS Emidio sunk the previous day from Blunt's Reef off Cape Mendocino in California. Shawnee served for 30 years until 1970 when decomissioned.
