Ship History Built by New York Shipbuilding Company in Camden, NJ. Laid down September 24, 1942 as LCI-1 Class Landing Craft Infantry (Large). Launched October 15, 1942 as USS LCI(L)-24. Commissioned in the U.S. Navy (USN) with Lt(jg) R. E. Ward, USNR in command. Wartime History Assigned to Landing Force Flotillas-SoPacFor, LCI Flotilla Five, LCI Group Fourteen. This LCI(L)-24 participated in New Georgia Group between June 30, 1943–July 4, 1943. Next, participated in the Treasury-Bougainville operations. On October 27, 1943 landed the New Zealand Army 3rd Division Brigade at Falamai (Falami) on Mono Island. Afterwards, participated in the Consolidation of the Solomon Islands between April 14, 1944 until June 15, 1944. On June 15, 1944 redesignated as Landing Craft Guns LCI(G)-24 with upgraded armament of 2 x 40mm guns, 4 x 20mm guns, 6 x .50 caliber machine guns and MK7 rocket launchers. Next, participated in Consolidation and capture of the Southern Philippines between April 17, 1945 until April 25, 1945. Finally, participated in Borneo operations including the landings at Balikpapan "Operation Oboe Two" landing the Australian Army 7th Division between June 26, 1945 until July 7, 1945. Postwar At the end of the Pacific War, Decommissioned and Struck from the Naval Register and transferred to the Maritime Commission for disposal.
