Ship History
Built by Friedrich Krupp Germaniawerft in Kiel, Germany for Max C. Fleischmann of Santa Barbara, California. Laid down during 1927 as a yacht. Named Haida for the Haida people.

Wartime History
On October 25, 1940 acquired by the U.S. Navy (USN) and renamed USS Argus (PY-14) as the second ship with the name for Argus of Greek mythology. Commissioned February 13, 1941. On February 19, 1941 arrives San Francisco and began patrolling San Francisco Bay as part of Patrol force, 12th Naval District. In May 1941 assigned to Patrol Squadron 1, Local Defense Force, 12th Naval District.

On September 17, 1941 transfered to the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey (USC&GS) and renamed Pioneer.

On March 16, 1942 returned to the U.S. Navy and underwent conversion at General Engineering & Drydock Company and recommissioned as USS Argus and resumed patrolling San Francisco Bay.

On October 30, 1944 rescued sixty survivors of SS John A. Johnson sunk the day before and transported them back to San Francisco.

Today
During 2011, Haida G was again sold and renamed Dona Amelia. She received a further extensive refit at Pendennis Shipyard in Falmouth, Cornwall in 2016/2017, after which she was renamed Haida 1929 by her new owner.
