Sub History
Built by Electric Boat Company of Groton, Connecticut. Laid down April 21, 1941 as Gato-class submarine. Launched February 17, 1942 as USS Albacore (SS-218). Commissioned June 1, 1942 in the U.S. Navy (USN).

Wartime History
PARTIAL LIST

On December 18, 1942 Tenryu was torpedoed and sunk by USS Albacore (SS-218).

Albacore was assigned lifeguard duty for downed bombers attacking off Yap and Ulithi.

On December 26, 1943 departs Brisbane on a patrol north of the Bismarck Sea. On January 12, 1944 spotted Choko Maru and sank the vessel during two attacks. On January 14, 1944 part of a wolf pack with USS Scamp and USS Guardfish (SS-217) that engage a convoy. USS Albacore spots Sazanami and fired four torpedoes from her stern tubes with two hitting the destroyer roughly 300 miles southeast of Yap. Afterwards, survives a depth charge attack including 59 depth charges.

On June 19, 1944 in the morning during the Battle of the Philippine Sea fires a spread of six torpedoes at Taihō with one hitting the starboard side and causes damage that will eventually cause the aircraft carrier to sink.

On July 2, 1944 Albacore began intercepting traffic between Yap and the Palau. The submarine spotted a wooden inter-island steamer loaded with Japanese civilians. Albacore attacked with her deck gun, setting the ship afire then dived to avoid an aircraft. The submarine surfaced soon thereafter and picked up five survivors.

Sinking History
On November 7, 1944 Albacore likely struck a mine off northern Hokkaidō and sunk.
