Tank History
Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) as Type 97 Chi-Ha Medium Tank.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 2nd Tank Regiment, 4th Company. Loaded as cargo aboard Sakito Maru (Sasago Maru) and transported to Guadalcanal. During the night of October 14, 1942 landed on Guadalcanal and was assigned to the 1st Independent Tank Company with 108 men.

The unit landed on Guadalcanal from the Sasago Maru (1st Platoon) and the remaining 104 personnel aboard the Sakido. During the landing, one was killed and two wounded plus one tank destroyed or disabled by enemy gunfire.

Possibly, this tank was 1st Platoon commander's tank No. 1 that experienced engine trouble or No. 2 or No. 3 (3d Platoon) tanks that did not participate in the October 24, 1942 crossing of the sandbar at the mouth of the Matanikau River. Later, this tank was abandoned near Bonegi. On January 30, 1943 captured by the U.S. Army and photographed.

Wreckage
The fate of this tank is unknown. Possibly, the turret was recovered to the Vilu War Museum.
