Tank History Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) as Type 97 Chi-Ha Medium Tank hull number unknown. Wartime History Transported to Saipan. During June 1944, disabled during the Battle of Saipan and captured by U. S. forces. Wreckage This tank is displayed on Saipan atop a concrete pedestal. The turret is facing forward. Over the past decade, its condition has deteriorated and the bow machine gun and other parts have been removed. During the early 2000s, a metal frame was added to the top of the turret as a replica radio antenna.
