Tank History Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA) as Type 97 Chi-Ha Medium Tank. Wartime History Assigned to the 9th Tank Regiment and shipped to Manchuria. During April 1944 shipped to Saipan. During June 1944, disabled during the Battle of Saipan and abandoned. Wreckage This tank is displayed as a memorial on Saipan. The turret is facing forward. Over the past decade, its condition has deteriorated and the bow machine gun and other parts have been removed. During the early 2000s, a metal frame was added to the top of the turret as a replica radio antenna.
