Background
The 24th Dokuritsu Dai Shijugo Chutai (24th Independent Squadron) was part of the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF) that operated the Type 1 Fighter / Ki-43 Oscar.

Wartime History
On October 1944 moves to Fabrica Airfield on Negros.

On November 12, 1944 in the morning Ki-43 Oscars from 24th Fighter Squadron (Independent) escort the Banda Special Attack Squadron attacking American transports off eastern Leyte. They damage two Landing craft repair ships and damage six transports.

During November 1944 departs Negros.

Markings
The unit motif was a red silhouette of an eagle with wings raised and feet below on the tail.

A Japanese War Memorial Chinkon at Tinago Cemetery near Fabrica Airfield on Negros in the Philippines.
