Background
Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) No. 20 Squadron operated the F4U Corsair in the South Pacific (SoPAC) during World War II.
Wartime History
On February 3, 1945 lost is F4U Corsair NZ5400 pilot F/Sgt Ronald E. Hallett (MIA) crashed into the sea near Shortland Island.
On June 21, 1945 lost is F4U Corsair NZ5402 pilot F/Sgt Ronald C. Warren (POW, survived) on a patrol mission over Rabaul. While flying on the northwest side of Ulu Island, hit a palm tree and crashed and was captured. Warren was the only New Zealand POW to survive captivity at Rabaul.
