Background
On January 15, 1942 the Alaskan Air Force was activated in the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) at Elmendorf Field under Lieutenant Colonel Everett S.
Davis to manage the buildup of the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) in Alaska. On February 5, 1942 redesignated as the 11th Air Force (11th AF).
