Background
The 28th Composite Group (28th CG) was assigned to the 11th Air Force (11th AF) in Alaska. By March 1944, redesignated 28th Bombardment Group (28th BG) until the end of the Pacific War. On August 4, 1946 redesignated as 28th Strategic Reconnaissance Wing. On September 18, 1947 becomes part of the U.S. Air Force (USAF) and was redesignated as the 28th Strategic Bombardment Wing.

The 73rd Bombardment Squadron (73rd BS) was assigned on May 3, 1941–October 6, 1943 transfered to 2nd Air Force (2nd AF).
404th Bombardment Squadron (404th BS)
The 404th Bombardment Squadron (404th BS) air echelon was attached July 12, 1942, assigned September 21, 1942.
