Background
On July 4, 1942 the 23rd Fighter Group (23rd FG) was activated in the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) in China absorbing some personnel and traditons of the American Volunteer Group (AVG) "Flying Tigers". On March 10, 1943 assigned to the 14th Air Force (14th AF).
