Background
Headquarters, 308th Bombardment Wing (Heavy) was part of U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF). During World War II, part of the 5th Air Force (5th AF) and later the Far East Air Force (FEAF).

During March 1944, based at Dobodura in New Guinea with the 418th Night Fighter Squadron (418th NFS) attached.

On June 15, 1944 became part of the Far East Air Force (FEAF).

On July 2, 1944 moves to Owi Airfield in the Schouten Island Group off western New Guinea.

On August 10, 1944 moves to Hollandia in western New Guinea.

On October 22, 1944 moves to Leyte in the Philippines.

On January 11, 1945 moves to Luzon in the Philippines. On January 25, 1945 Marine Aircraft Groups, Dagupan under the command of Colonel Clayton C. Jerome at Dagupan was placed under the control of the 308th BW to provide ground support for the U.S. Army on Luzon.

On June 16, 1945 moves to Okinawa.
