Background
On October 21, 1943 redesignated 867th Bombardment Squadron (867th BS) in the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF). On December 1, 1943 assigned to the 494th Bombardment Group (494th BG).

Wartime History
On December 19, 1944 the 494th BG all four squadrons including six B-24s from 867th BS bomb Legaspi Airfield including the barracks area.

On May 4, 1945 the squadron bombs Koror Island (Oreor). Lost is B-24M "Brief" 44-42058 pilot 2nd Lt. Glen R. Custer (KIA, POW).

Postwar
On January 2, 1946 arrives Fort Lawton in Washington State. On January 4, 1946 inactivated.
