IJN 452 Kōkūtai |
Aircraft History Built by Nakajima. At the factory, painted with dark green upper surfaces and gray lower surfaces. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Type 2 Float Plane Fighter / A6M2-N Rufe manufacture number 7133. Assigned to 452 Kōkūtai (452 Air Group). Tail Code unknown, likely M-?? (last two digits unknown). Wartime History On February 21, 1943 at Yokosuka loaded aboard Kimikawa Maru and transported as part of convoy I-21 via Paramushuiro bound for Kiska. On March 10, 1943 unloaded at Kiska Harbor and operated from Kiska Harbor Seaplane Base until disabled or damaged. This Rufe was abandoned when the Japanese withdrew on July 23, 1943. Wreckage During August 1943, this Rufe was captured by American personnel. Pieces were taken as souvenirs from the wreckage. Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
