Aircraft History Built by Mitsubishi, on July 6, 1942 as the 35th Model 32 manufactured. At the factory, painted overall gray with a black cowling. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Type 0 / A6M3 Model 32 Zero Manufacture Number 3036. In Japan, assigned a Houkoku Gou (Navy Patriotic Presentation Number). Donated by 元山三山號 Motoyama Miyama. Assigned Houkoku Gou 878 (Patriotic Presentation Number 878) in black on both sides of the rear fuselage. Afterwards, dissembled and shipped to the South Pacific and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 2nd Kōkūtai (2nd Air Group). Tail code Q-104. During the last week of August 1942, this Zero was flown to Buna Airfield (Old Strip). Likely, this Zero sustained damage in air combat or was disabled on the ground. Abandoned largely intact with the propeller removed on the side of the runway at Buna Airfield (Old Strip). Wreckage During late December 1942, captured by the U.S. Army at Buna Airfield (Old Strip). Ultimate fate unknown.
