On April 17, 1943 McArthur, Neuman and Whitelaw were aboard B-17F Flying Fortress 41-24425 that experienced a sudden down draft and collided with B-17F "Dinah Might ?" 41-24355 then crashed into the sea off Hood Point with the entire crew of seven listed as Missing In Action (MIA).
