Location Lat 10° 4' 60S Long 147° 43' 0E Hood Point is located on the south coast of New Guinea. Hood Point includes several villages including Hula, Alewai, Irupara, Makirupu, Kamali and Babaga. Borders Hood Bay to the east and Beagle Bay to the west. The mouth of the Kemp Welch River empties into Hood Bay to the east of Hood Point. Beyond to the west is Port Moresby. Prewar and during the Pacific War known as the Central District of the Territory of Papua. Today located in the Rigo District of Central Province in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Wartime History During the Pacific War, air combat between Allied and Japanese aircraft occurred over Hood Bay. By late 1942, Hula Airfield (Hood Point Airfield) was built as an emergency landing ground.
