Aircraft History
Built by Consolidated Aircraft Corporation at San Diego. Delivered by the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-24D-130-CO Liberator 42-41066.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 43rd Bombardment Group (43rd BG), 403rd Bombardment Squadron (403rd BS). No known nickname or nose art. When lost, engines R-1830-43 serial numbers 42-88740, 41-88707, 42-88793 and 42-87217. Weapon serial numbers not noted in Missing Air Crew Report (MACR) 798.

Wartime History
On October 2, 1943 took off from 7 Mile Drome (Jackson) near Port Moresby piloted by 1st Lt. Paul S. Lamos, Jr. on weather reconnaissance mission over Wewak. Aboard was observer 1st Lt. Clarence J. Fisher from 345th Bombardment Group (345th BG), 498th Bombardment Squadron (498th BS). This B-24's last reported position by radio was approximately Lat 7° 42' S Long 142° 30' E over Gulf Province.

Search
After this bomber was reported missing, an aerial search was flown over the southern coast of New Guinea, over the route this B-24 was to have flown, but no sightings were made.

Memorials
The entire crew was officially declared dead on October 3, 1944. All are memorialized on the tablets of the missing at Manila American Cemetery. Rhodes also has a memorial marker at Oak Grove Cemetery in Iuka, MI.
