Aircraft History Built by Consolidated at San Diego between June 21, 1943 to June 29, 1943. Constructors Number 2197. On July 1, 1943 first test flight. On July 2, 1943 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-24D-135-CO Liberator serial number 42-41120. On July 3, 1943 flown to Tucson, AZ then to Tinker Field to the modification center for the Oklahoma nose modification and installation of RCM receiver. On September 14, 1943 took off from Fairfield Airfield on a ferry flight via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia arriving September 20, 1943 at Garbutt Field in Townsville. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 380th Bombardment Group (380th BG), 529th Bombardment Squadron (529th BS) at Long Field. Nicknamed "Snafu No. II" in block letters outlined and the letters in SNAFU written backwards and "No." written smaller in black without an outline. The nose art was a nude pregnant woman holding a baby in one hand with a flower in her hair. Below the cockpit was a scoreboard with bomb markings indicating bombing missions flown, some with star insignia above in three rows. In total, this bomber flew at least 62 missions. Assigned to crew chief MSgt Marcel M. Thomas. On November 17, 1943 took off from Long Field piloted by Horn with crew no. 14 on bombing mission (FEN III-24) against Tjepoe on Java. In total, this bomber flew 62 combat missions. During February 1945 written off as salvaged at Darwin. On May 20, 1945 officially stricken off charge as "CON SAL" (condemned salvage) at UCIP. Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
