Aircraft History
Built by Consolidated at San Diego. Constructors Number 2753. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-24J-20-CO Liberator serial number 42-73183. Ferried overseas to India.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 10th Air Force (10th AF), 7th Bombardment Group (7th BG), 9th Bombardment Squadron (9th BS). No known nickname or nose art. Weapon serial numbers noted in Missing Air Crew Report 1225 (MACR 1225). Nose number "24".

Mission History
On December 1, 1943 took off from Pandaveswar Airfield in India on bombing mission against Insein north of Rangoon in Burma. Over the target, this B-24 was intercepted by enemy fighters and burst into flames from the bomb bay to the waist windows and dove out of formation out of control. When this bomber failed to return, it was officially declared Missing In Action (MIA). Also lost is B-24J 42-73055 pilot Captain William "Bill" Wright (POW/MIA).

Recovery of Remains
After the war, the remains of the crew were recovered and transported to the United States for permanent burial.

Memorials
The entire crew was officially declared dead the day of the mission.

After the recovery of remains, Forrest, Coddington, Glance, Soderstrom, Hansen and Johnson were buried in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery at section 82 site 49-50 in a group burial.

Elliott has an unknown burial, likely in a private cemetery in the United States.

Maag is buried at Grandview Cemetery in Wray, CO at range 8, grave 26.

Emery is buried at Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY at plot J, grave 14020.

Bender is buried at Golden Gate National Cemetery in San Bruno, CA at section N grave 1291.
