Aircraft History Built by North American Aviation (NAA). Constructors Number 87-7897. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-25D Mitchell serial number 41-29697. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 3rd Bombardment Group (3rd BG), 90th Bombardment Squadron (90th BS). Nicknamed "Junior Bat". On May 24, 1943 took off piloted by Lt. Clifford "Kip" Wonderly with co-pilot Richard Davis on a flight from Horanda Airfield (Horanda 4) on a search mission for a Japanese submarine and afterwards landed at 7 Mile Drome near Port Moresby. On May 26, 1943 while parked at 7 Mile Drome, a B-24D Liberator collided with this plane causing damage. Afterwards, repaired over three months and became a 'fat cat' transport and nicknamed "Patches". Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
