Aircraft History
Built by North American Aviation (NAA) in Inglewood. Constructors Number 87-7865. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-25D Mitchell serial number 41-29707. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 38th Bombardment Group (38th BG), 71st Bombardment Squadron (71st BS). Nicknamed "Sun-Setter’s Son" with a hyphen and apostrophe, often listed as "Sunsetter's Son".

Mission History
On December 1, 1942 took off from Port Moresby piloted by 1st Lt Ross G. Menoher as one of six B-25s on a mission to attack a Japanese convoy of four destroyers approaching Buna. After bombing the lead vessel in the convoy, the formation was intercepted by 10-12 A6M Zeros. During the first pass, this B-25 was shot down in flames. Two parachutes were seen to open before the bomber crashed into the sea. Crashed in the sea roughly 92 mile north of Buna at approximatly Lat 06.36 Long 150.12.

Memorials
The entire crew was officially declared dead on December 12, 1945. All are memorialized at Manila American Cemetery on the tablets of the missing. Savely has a memorial marker at Fairview Cemetery in Greensburg, KS.
