Aircraft History Built by North American Aviation (NAA). Constructors Number 87-7879. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-25D Mitchell serial number 41-29714. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia. Wartime History Assigned to the 3rd Bombardment Group (3rd BG), 13th Bombardment Squadron (13th BS). Nicknamed "Fair Dinkum". Wartime History On April 12, 1943 this B-25 was parked at 14 Mile Drome (Schwimmer) near Port Moresby. During the Japanese air raid against Port Moresby, bombs dropped by G4M1 Betty bombers hit this B-25 and destroyed it on the ground. Wreckage Afterwards, this aircraft was written off. The fuselage and wings were destroyed by fire. The outer wings and rear fuselage plus the tail were not burned but the fire burned off the rudder fabric. Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
