Aircraft History Built by North American Aviation (NAA). Constructors Number 87-7884. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-25D Mitchell serial number 41-29719. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 3rd Bombardment Group (3rd BG), 13th Bombardment Squadron (13th BG). Nicknamed "The Grim Reaper". This B-25 was the first aircraft in the group to use this nickname, which was later adopted by the entire 3rd Bomb Group. On April 12, 1943 parked at 14 Mile Drome (Schwimmer) near Port Moresby. During the Japanese air raids, G4M1 Bettys released bombs that destroyed this bomber on the ground. Wreckage Afterwards, this aircraft was written off and abandoned. Ultimate fate unknown likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
