Aircraft History
Built by North American Aviation (NAA). Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as B-25G-5 Mitchell serial number 42-64810. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia.

Wartime History
Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 38th Bombardment Group (38th BG) "Sun Setters", 823rd Bombardment Squadron (823rd BS) "The Terrible Tigers". No known nickname or nose art. When lost, engines: R-2600-13 serial numbers: (left) 42-271491 (right) 42-271498.

Mission History
On February 2, 1944 at 1:33pm took off from 17 Mile Drome (Durand) near Port Moresby on a search mission for B-25G 42-64881 missing on January 28, 1944.

This B-25 last made radio contact at 1:37pm, four minutes after take off. Further communication was unsatisfactory due to static. When this aircraft failed to return it was declared Missing In Action (MIA).

Search
Afterwards, search efforts were expanded for both missing B-25s, without results.

Memorials
The entire crew was officially declared dead the day of the mission. Bradham was officially declared dead April 2, 1944. All are memorialized at Manila American Cemetery on the tablets of the missing. Gable, and Lightner earned the Air Medal. Romick earned the earned the Air Medal and Purple Heart.

Lightner also has a memorial marker Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon, IL.
