Aircraft History
Built by Douglas Aircraft Company in Long Beach. Constructors Number 4696. On September 7, 1942 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47-DL Skytrain serial number 41-18571. Ferried overseas to the South West Pacific Area (SWPA).

Wartime History
During September 1942 assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 374th Troop Carrier Group (374th TCG), 6th Troop Carrier Squadron (6th TCS). In Australia or New Guinea, nicknamed "Johnny Reb". Call Sign VH-CCN.

Mission History
On December 3, 1942 took off from 5 Mile Drome near Port Moresby and due to pilot error and crashed and burned without any casualties at Popondetta in New Guinea. Likely, crashed while landing at Popondetta Airfield.

Wreckage
Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared. The wreckage of C-47 Skytrain at Poponetta Airfield might this aircraft.
