Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Constructors Number unknown (four digits). Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47 Skytrain serial number 41-????? (last five digits unknown). Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to Australia. Wartime History This C-47 crashed or was destroyed while parked at Popondetta Airfield sometime before December 1942. Afterwards, written off and stripped for usable parts with the engines removed. Wreckage During December 1942, the right wing with a portion of the fuselage including three windows remained in the kunai grass near the runway at Popondetta Airfield. This might be the wreckage of C-47 "Johnny Reb" 41-18571 crashed December 3, 1942. Contribute
