Aircraft History
Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Constructor number 4709. On September 11, 1942 delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47-DL Skytrain serial number 41-18584. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field across the Pacific to Australia.

Wartime History
On October 3, 1942 assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 374th Troop Carrier Group (374th TCG), 6th Troop Carrier Squadron (6th TCS). Nicknamed "Pel" and later "Flamingo" in block letters inside dobule quotation marks. Australian call sign VH-CFI. During October 1942 began operating from 5 Mile Drome (Ward) near Port Moresby flying cargo and personnel in New Guinea. On October 15, 1942 crashed at Kokoda Airfield and sustained damage. Afterwards, repaired.

On December 28, 1942 photographed landing at Popondetta Airfield to transport Australian Army 2/4th Field Ambulance personnel back to Port Moresby.

During May 1943 transfered to the 317th Troop Carrier Group (317th TCG), 40th Troop Carrier Squadron (40th TCS). Squadron Number (Buzz Number) 36 and retained the nickname "Flamingo" and was part of the squadron until at least January 1944.

In the middle of November 1943, rescued the crew of B-24D "Sky Lady" 41-24043 and flew them to Port Moresby. A photograph was taken of the rescued crew standing with the plane.

Later, returned to the United States. On September 15, 1945 transferred to the Reconstruction Finance Corporation (RFC). Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
