Aircraft History Built by Douglas Aircraft Company. Constructors Number 16962/34222. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-47B-45-DK Skytrain serial number 45-0959. Ferried overseas via Hickam Field then across the Pacific to New Zealand. On August 16, 1945 delivered to the Royal New Zealand Air Force (RNZAF) as C-47B Dakota serial number NZ3552. BOC No. 1 ASU at Hamilton Airfield. Assigned to No. 41 Squadron at Whenuapai Airfield. Between 1950-1951 operated from Singapore. On July 3, 1952 stricken off charge and offered for sale as military surplus. On July 15, 1952 registered as ZK-BBJ in New Zealand. On June 6, 1953 converted into a civilian DC-3 at Palmerston North. On March 17, 1964 converted into a DC-3 Skyliner at Christchurch. Nicknamed "Gisborne". On August 31, 1970 leased to Alpine Helicopters. On May 29, 1972 to Fieldair. On November 18, 1980 to Speedlink Freight. On April 19, 1993 to North Shore Helicopters. On September 14, 1994 the registration was canceled and withdrawn from flying. On April 21, 1994 flown from Auckland to Cambodia and operated by a New Zealand company in Cambodia for contract flying. By 1995 flown to Kenya. By 2024, displayed Go-kart Mombasa in Mombasa in Kenya with "UN" on the tail. Fate On April 12, 2024 destroyed by fire that destroyed the fuselage severed the tail and nose and completely destroyed the fuselage.
