  Lockheed Model 10A(E) Electra Constructors Number 1015 Registration N72GT

Aircraft History
Built by Lockheed in Burbank as Model 10A Electra (L-10A) Electra completed in 1935. Constructors Number 1015. Purchased by Northwest Airlines and registered as NC14900.

On March 14, 1942 impressed into service with the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as C-36A Electra serial number 42-57213 and used as a VIP transport in the United States. During January 1943 redesignated UC-36A Electra.

On May 12, 1944 returned to Northwest Airlines as NC14900 and used as an airliner. Postwar, sold to Viação Aérea Rio-Grandense (VARIG) in Brazil and registered as PP-VAR. Later, assigned to the Força Aérea Brasileira (FAB) Brazilian Air Force with registration FAB-1002 or simply 1002.

On January 23, 1956 returned to the United States and sold to a private owner and registered as N2067A. Returned to Lockheed and converted into a Model 10E. Later, registered as N72GT.

During 1994, acquired by Linda Finch who restored the plane to the specifications of Model 10E Electra NR16020 flown around the world by Amelia Earhart until she went missing on July 2, 1937. The restoration was made possible with assistance from Pratt & Whitney and historical materials and the plane was even assigned her registration NR16020 by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

During 1997 on the 60th anniversary of the flight by Amelia Earhart, the restored aircraft piloted by Linda Finch made a worldwide flight to retrace her flight around the world, but modified the flight path as she was unable to fly over Libya and made more stops in the Pacific and was unable to land at Howland Island but dropped a wreath in honor of the missing plane and crew. By August 1997 registered as NX72GT.

Display
During 2012, the Museum of Flight began fundraising to purchase this aircraft. On March 9, 2013 the Museum of Flight announced in a news release that they would acquired the plane. In September 2013 this Electra was flown to the Museum of Flight and became part an exhibit about Amelia Earhart, including the only known piece of her original plane inside the museum gallery.
