Aircraft History Built by Lockheed in Burbank as Model 10A Electra (L-10A) completed September 1938. Constructors Number 1131. Purchased by MacRobertson Miller Aviation (MMA). Disassembled and loaded as cargo aboard the Tolken and shipped to Australia. On December 5, 1938 arrives Adelaide then towed to Parafield Airfield and reassembled twelve days later. Registered in Australia as VH-ABW and nicknamed "R.M.A. Kimberley". Starting in February 1939 began flying as an airliner between Perth add Darwin. Wartime History On March 3, 1942 this Electra piloted by James Woods spotted the survivors of Do 24K-1 X-36, and circled them. Afterwards, landed at Broome Airfield to load supplies and took off again and dropped supplies to the group. For the remainder of the month, this aircraft helped evacuate civilians from Broome and Darwin. In December 1942, flew the air route between Sydney to Hobart on a temporary basis. During January 1943, returned to MMA service as an airliner for the remainder of World War II. Mission History On June 17, 1946 took off on a flight and crashed into the tidal flats near Roebuck Creek off Broome.
