Wartime History Assigned to USS Leyte CV-32 to Composite Squadron 62 (VC-62) "Fighting Photos". No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On October 7, 1950 took off USS Leyte CV-32 piloted by Ensign William George Wagner. After take off, this aircraft experienced an engine failure and ditched into the sea at roughly Lat 31.09N Long 131.05E. Fates of the Crew Afterwards, Wagner was rescued and returned to duty. References Other sources list this aircraft as assigned to VC-30 in error. Navy Serial Number Search Results - F4U-5P Corsair 122170 Later, Wagner crash landed piloting F4U-5P Corsair 122169 on November 28, 1950 and was rescued by died when H-5H Dragonfly 49-2009 crashed on the return flight.
