Pilot 1st Lt. Donald K. Skillicorn, 24656 (MIA / KIA) CA MIA April 8, 1944 Aircraft History Built by Vought. Delivered to the U.S. Navy (USN) as F4U-1 Corsair bureau number 18113. Wartime History Assigned to the United States Marine Corps (USMC) to Marine Fighting Squadron 422 (VMF-422) "Flying Buccaneers". No known nickname or nose art. Mission History On April 8, 1944 took off from Engebi Airfield (Wrigley Airfield) piloted by 1st Lt. Donald K. Skillicorn on a flight over Ponape Island. Over the target, hit by anti-aircraft fire and ditched. When this plane failed to return it was officially listed as Missing In Action (MIA). Memorials Skillicorn was officially declared dead on January 18, 1946. He was memorialized at Manila American Cemetery on the tablets of the missing.
