Aircraft History Built by Mitsubishi at Nagoya No. 3 Works. At the factory, green upper surfaces and gray lower surfaces. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as Type 1 Attack Bomber Hamaki / G4M1 Model 11 Betty manufacture number unknown. Wartime History Assigned to the 705 Kōkūtai (705 Air Group). Tail code 355 painted in yellow. Mission History On June 10, 1943 took off on a bombing mission against Guadalcanal. Over the target, this bomber crashed into the jungle in the interior of Guadalcanal. Wreckage During 1999, the crash site was found in thick jungle with the wreckage scattered, well preserved and undisturbed. Later that same year, a Japanese team from the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare (MHLW) trekked to the wreck, guided by a white expatriate.
