Aircraft History
Built by Mitsubishi at Nagoya No. 3 Works. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as G4M1 Model 11 Betty manufacture number unknown. Assigned to an unknown Kokutai. No known markings or tail code.

Wartime History
Took off on a bombing mission against Port Moresby and crashed in the vicinity. Precise details unknown.

Wreckage
A piece of wreckage from the left wing, including the outer wing panel attach point to the side of the engine was salvaged by the Allies.

Taken to the 27th Air Depot aircraft disassembly area at Moitaka to the northwest of 7-Mie Drome (Jackson Airfield) and was abandoned after the war.

During December 1980, this wreckage was recovered by Bruce Hoy to the PNG Museum for display

Bruce Hoy adds:
"I first saw the wing on November 23, 1974. Wing recovered by me in December 1980 together with the wheel and undercarriage from Ford Tri-Motor VH-UDY, not far from where the stack of drop tanks were located."

Display
Since 1980 displayed outdoors at the PNG Museum.
