Aircraft History Built by Mitsubishi. Delivered to the Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) as J8M1 Shūsui manufacture number 403. Wartime History At the end of the Pacific War, this aircraft was surrendered to the U.S. forces occupying Japan and was one of two Shūsui selected for further technical evaluation. In U.S. custody, designated Foreign Equipment number 300 (FE-300) and later designated T2-N700. Afterwards, loaded aboard USS Barnes (CVE-20) as one of 145 Japanese aircraft and departed November 3, 1945 bound for the United States. Afterwards, placed into storage and later sold off. Display This Shūsui was purchased by Edward Maloney. The jet is displayed at Planes of Fame Museum painted orange atop a jig elevating it off ground level.
