JAAF 68th Hiko Sentai or 78th Hiko Sentai

Aircraft History Built by Kawasaki at Kagamigahara during September 1943. Uncoded serial number 288. Delivered to the Japanese Army Air Force (JAAF) as Type 3 fighter / Ki-61-I Tony manufacture number 388. Armament configuration "Ko" with 2 x 12.7mm Ho-103 machine cannons in the nose and two 7.7 mm Type 89 machine guns in the wings. Wartime History Assigned to either the 68th Hiko Sentai (68th Flying Regiment) or 78th Hiko Sentai (78th Flying Regiment). During 1943 or early 1944 this Tony force landed in Madang Province. Wreckage Until at least the early 1970s, wreckage of this aircraft remained in Madang Province. In 1974 inspected by Charles Darby who noted the manufacture number 388.
