Aircraft History Built by Curtiss. Constructors Number 12415. During April 1938, delivered to the U.S. Army Air Corps (USAAC) as P-36A Hawk serial number 38-1 (38-001) as the first delivered. On September 1938 assigned to the 20th PG at Barksdale Field. On June 20, 1941 became part of the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF). During 1943, assigned to the Fuerza Aerea del Peru (FAP) Peruvian Air Force with serial number FAP290. Later, returned to the United States. In 1946, sold by War Assets Corporation for $650. On February 27, 1959 acquired by Edward S. Perkins of Anniston, AL and registered as N52203. Display In April 1959 donated by Edward S. Perkins to the United States Air Force Museum (USAF Museum) at Patterson Field. On May 24, 1965 the civil registration was cancelled. In the late 1960s painted in the markings of war games camouflage assigned to the 1st PG, 27th PS at Selfridge Field. In 1971, moved to the new National Museum of the United States Air Force (USAF Museum) at Wright Field in Dayton, OH. During 1998, repainted in the marking of P-36A Hawk 38-86 with fuselage number 86 and tail number 48 15P with a rudder with red and white stripes and a blue stripe. On December 7, 1941 took off from Wheeler Field piloted by Lt Philip Rasmussen to intercepted the Japanese planes over Oahu and sustained battle damage. By 2012, a mannequin representing Rasmussen in pajamas was added standing on the left wing with a ground crew member near the nose.
