Aircraft History Built by Lockheed Aircraft Corporation (LAC) in Burbank. Constructors Number 222-7293. Delivered to the U.S. Army Air Force (USAAF) as P-38G-5-LO Lightning serial number 42-12859. Disassembled and shipped overseas to Australia and reassembled. Wartime History Assigned to the 5th Air Force (5th AF), 35th Fighter Group (35th FG), 39th Fighter Squadron (39th FS). No known nickname or nose art. Assigned to pilot Captain Thomas J. Lynch. Squadron Number 10. This aircraft had shark mouth motif on the engine cowlings. On the left side of the nose was a scoreboard with ten Japanese flags (7+3) indicating aerial victory claims as of May 8, 1943. Ultimate fate unknown, likely scrapped or otherwise disappeared.
